Yosemite Green Meetings

With a setting as spectacular as the Yosemite Sierra, Tenaya Lodge is committed to preserving resources and minimizing footprints on this natural treasure.  We’re constantly looking for new ways to reduce the impact of business on the environment and actively support Yosemite green meetings.

Tenaya Lodge is a member of the Green Hotels Association and has earned a Five Key rating from Green Key Global. In partnership with our parent company, Delaware North, our revolutionary GreenPath program is a formal, documented, and comprehensive environmental management system that is organically woven into everything we do.

Disposable-Free Service

When it comes to staging a green meeting, we consider details large and small:

  • Refillable water pitchers instead of bottled water.
  • Milk, sugar and other condiments served in bulk.
  • China instead of disposable items.
  • Linen napkins to replace paper ones.
  • Cutlery instead of plastic items and stir sticks.
  • Centerpieces may be edible-organic arrangements or made from reusable items such as silk. (Cost for this will be the responsibility of the meeting planner.)
  • Paper doilies replaced with coasters where possible.
  • Custom menus printed on recycled paper stock.
  • If disposables cannot be avoided, they are to be biodegradable or recyclable.

Food and Beverage Selection

  • Organic beverages (such as coffee, tea or wine) are available.
  • Local and in-season regional cuisine is served where possible.
  • Seafood choices are sustainable.
  • Sample organic/sustainable menus provided upon request. Vegetarian options are available.

Reusable and Recyclable Meeting Tools

  • Use paperless technology. Use new media and electronic technology to cut down your paper use. Create a conference website. Offer electronic registration and confirmation and advertise using the Internet and/or email.
  • Recycling stations/bins to be placed in meeting room.
  • White boards should be used in place of flip charts.
  • If flip charts are used, ensure high post-consumer content paper (80% minimum).
  • Promotional collateral should be minimized, where possible. Give attendees flash drives that contain all presentations.
  • If printed materials are needed, publish on recycled paper and print on both sides using vegetable-based inks.
  • Provide conference cups or travel mugs to your attendees to use for all coffee and beverage breaks.

Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite has begun the process of becoming Zero-Waste by 2018!

CaliforniaGreen Lodging Program -

The California Green Lodging Program acknowledges and certifies environmentally conscious hotels in the lodging industry, as well as encourages state and local government travelers to seek out and give preference to these certified “green” hotels. By traveling green, government travelers divert waste from landfills, and conserve energy and water as they conduct business for the government entities; thus, reducing the carbon footprint for travel and supporting California's green initiative. Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite is proud to be a part of this state run program and is listed on their online directory as a lodging partner.

Tenaya Lodge Zero Waste Plan -

Tenaya Lodge developed a Zero Waste Plan in August 2016. This plan, one of the first locations in the area to generate zero waste or minimum waste, positions Tenaya Lodge as an environmentally friendly and responsible destination. The plan has five distinct phases and the final phase will be completed during the third quarter of 2018. Zero Waste is a philosophy that encourages the re-design of resource lifestyles so that all products are re-used.  No trash is sent to landfills or incinerators and the process recommended is one similar to the way that resources are re-used in nature.

Zero Waste is a goal that is ethical, economical, efficient and visionary. Zero Waste is a means to guide people in changing their lifestyles and practices to emulate sustainable natural cycles, where all discarded materials are designed to become resources for others to use.

Implementing Zero Waste will eliminate all discharges to land, water or air that are a threat to planetary, human, animal or plant health.
